Nepal counts among the rather unknown origins of speciality coffee. However it has witnessed an amazing development during the past ten years. Some coffees have made it to the old continent but business contacts are still very limited.
Let’s go and change it! Coffee geeks & experts from around the world – join us on our coffee discovery trip in March 2011.
Here is what our plan is:
Tentative itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu (on individual basis)
Day 2: Drive and hike to Thurladurlung (Lalitpur coffee cooperative), visit small farmers’ coffee plantation, tented camp
Day 3: Discussion with farmers, return to Kathmandu
Day 4: Visit Plantec coffee planation at Nagarkot, 70 km N-E of Kathmandu, overnight in bungalows and tents
Day 5: Bird watching at the coffee plantation, return to Kathmandu
Day 6: Flight to Pokhara
Day 7: Visit to coffee farmers in bayali village, coffee cupping at Pokhara
Day 8: Visit of old coffee plantation at Begnas, return flight to Kathmandu
Day 9: Joint coffee cupping with coffee producers, discussion
Day 10: Sightseeing and transfer to airport
Touristic extension possible
Tour leader: Jörg Volkmann, lived and worked in Nepal from ‘99 – ‘01. 8 year track record in coffee (research, development & marketing).
Participants: 8-15. In order assure an international group of professionals we reserve the right to select among the applicants.
Deadline for application: November 30, 2010
Cost: approx. EUR 1.000 p.P., twin sharing bed & breakfast, single room supplement EUR 130
Costs not included: flight from/to Kathmandu, domestic flights (approx. EUR 160 – to be booked by local tour operator)
